We’ve been talking a lot lately on these calls about “freelance A&R directors”. If you were on the call last Thursday night, we had some intel come in about one of these so called connected industry professionals. It is with my honor today that I get to expose one of these people for who they truly are. A scam artist.
I want to reveal to you someone named “UMGExecutive”.
We have found out a few things about Mr. “UMGExecutive” and the scam he’s running.
1.) Last week, on February 16, 2013, Mr. “UMGExecutive” had around 4,000 tweets. Come Thursday night, while on our regular scheduled call, we had some intel come in. Where Mr. “UMGExecutive” went through all of those tweets, and is now down to 182. He was tweeting out to people directly, that if they could get their music into the hands of the A&R departments of top major record labels (Universal, Epic, Interscope, Warner, etc) if they submitted their music on demosubmissions.com. A website that claims it's "the music industry's official direct demo submissions site" and charges you $25 to send your music to the A&R departments of 10 major record labels.
I want to point out that no label executive would solicit you to send in music to their competition. None.
2.) According to Sony Music (the parent company of Epic and Columbia which Mr. “UMGExecutive” claims he can get your music to), does not accept unsolicited demo submissions. Whether that be you emailing them directly or trying to send it to them through a third-party website that claims they can get your music to them.
3.) I said on the call that I know (not personally) who Mr. "UMGExecutive" is impersonating. I have his actual Twitter and Instagram. He is real. He works for a major label and works directly with some of the top artist of today. I will not give out his real name nor the label he works for, but I will show you that I have proof.
