Rising south London star Katy B scored her first U.K. No. 1 album on Sunday, as her sophomore album “Little Red” (Rinse Recordings/Columbia/Sony) debuted at the summit. “Rather Be” (Atlantic/Warner Music), by Clean Bandit featuring Jess Glynne, began its fourth week atop the singles chart.
Katy B reached No. 2 with her debut set “Katy B On A Mission” In 2011 and has continued to rise in popularity since, scoring a fourth top ten single two weeks ago when “Crying For No Reason” entered at No. 5. It’s back up 7-5 this week.
Ellie Goulding’s “Halcyon” (Polydor/Universal) moved back 3-2 on the new album survey and London Grammar’s “If You Wait” (Metal & Dust Recordings) moved up again 4-3, as did Beyoncé’s self-titled Columbia/Sony album, 5-4. Avicii fell 2-5 with “True” (Positiva/PRMD/Universal).
There was a No. 7 start for English psychedelic rock band Temples with their first album “Sun Structures” (Heavenly), while last week’s new entry at No. 1, Bombay Bicycle Club’s “So Long, See You Tomorrow” (Universal Island), fell to No. 8. Longserving English soul vocalist Lisa Stansfield returned at No. 13 with “Seven” (Monkeynatra).
Neil Finn’s new solo release “Dizzy Heights” (Lester) opened at No. 22 and there was a No. 25 start for Rosanne Cash’s “The River & The Thread” (Blue Note/Universal). On the compilation chart, Rhino/Sony Music CG’s “I’m Every Woman” collection climbed 3-1.
For most of the sales week, Clean Bandit’s single had trailed “Stay The Night” (Interscope/Universal) by Russian/German DJ-producer Zedd featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams, but recovered to finish some 8,000 sales ahead, according to the Official Charts Company.
Pharrell Williams dipped 2-3 with “Happy” (Back Lot), while David Guetta made a No. 4 start with “Shot Me Down” (Parlophone/Warner Music), featuring Skylar Grey. Californian producer Le Youth debuted at No. 11 with “Dance With Me” (Sign Of The Times), featuring Dominique Young.
